Jason and I were super excited about our site for this year’s camping trip to Door County. We were lucky to book one of the few waterside sites in Peninsula State Park.
The campsite was comprised of three levels: the driveway upper level, the camp area in the middle, and a rock “beach” lower level. After scoping out many of the other sites around the campground, we think it’s the best campsite in the park if not the greatest campsite in Wisconsin. We already have our reservation made for next fall.
We always make most of our camping trip meals over the fire at our campsite. Preparing a meal over a fire isn’t easy, but it’s part of the camping experience.
Before this summer’s trips, I searched around for some camping recipes and found one for bannock, a camp bread. It’s ridiculously simple to make, very versatile, and really good. This trip, we decided to make a breakfast version with cinnamon sugar. The bannock turned out like camp doughnuts!
We paired the breakfast bannock with bacon from Dan’s Meat Market in Whitewater. The bacon from Dan’s is quite possibly the most amazing bacon on earth. We missed out on picking up bacon before our Devil’s Lake camping trip earlier in the summer, so we made sure to plan in advance to buy some for this trip.
After eating that much food, we needed a little more relaxation …
This is what camping is all about!
